JEE Main is the first stage of the two-tier Joint Entrance Examination for admission to under graduate engineering courses of the NITs and Centrally funded institutes as well as engineering colleges affiliated to leading private universities. This examination shall be the gateway to undergraduate engineering programs at NITs, IITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions and Institutions funded by participating State Governments. Admission criteria to these institutes shall include performance in the class 12th/qualifying examination and in the JEE Main exam. The Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.) of JEE (Main) will also be an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced), which the candidate has to take if he/she is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITs.
The States of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Nagaland and Odisha have joined JEE (Main) system. Therefore, the candidates seeking admission to the institutions in these states, which were earlier admitting based on their State Level Examination, are also advised to fill in the JEE (Main) - 2014 application form online.
Eligibility for appearing in JEE Main 2014: Candidates must have passed class 12th/qualifying examination in 2012 or 2013. Candidates appearing in the class 12th /qualifying examination in 2014 are also eligible to take the examination.
Date of Birth: Only those candidates whose date of birth on or after October 01, 1989 are eligible. However, this age limit is relaxed by 5 years in the case of SC/ST and OBC candidates.
No. of subjects in the qualifying examination: Candidates must have taken at least 5 subjects in the qualifying examination to be eligible for JEE Main 2014. Candidates who have taken 4 subjects in the qualifying exam will not be permitted to write the exam.
Mode of application for JEE Main is online only. There is no printed application form for JEE Main 2014. Candidates have to ensure that they are filling up the genuine application form available online at the JEE Main web site: www.jeemain.nic.in
Mode of examination: The paper 1(BE/B-Tech) of JEE Main shall be conducted in both Offline Mode (Pen and Paper Test) and Online Mode (Computer Based Examination). Candidates can opt for either mode at the time of application.
